Expanded Description The Course Objectives include general file maintenance and proper operation of Scandisk and Defrag and why these utilities are important. The student will learn how to take the covers off of their computer, clean and inspect it, and replace the CPU fan if needed. Backup devices will be discussed and as an optional assignment, a backup device installed and the understanding of the backup methods needed to protect your business. On-Line discussions of Viruses and understanding the methods to protect your computer. Homework will include a simple exam and the installation of the particular Anti-Virus program you choose, and how to insure it is updated with the latest Anti-Viral code files. (Student will be responsible for supplying the Anti-Virus program, can be downloaded on-line or purchased.) Internet Basics will be the second half of the course. The history of the Internet, the different parts that comprise the Internet, and what is needed to get connected will be covered. Homework will include a 10-question test on the material covered to insure a proper understanding. The precautions involved with minors and the proper Virus protection will be covered. Resources available to help the student learn his/her way around the Internet will be presented. These resources include WEB Tutorials and Search Engines. How to manage E-Mail and use it to send and receive files over the Internet will be discussed. Programs to help make E-Mail easier are key subjects. ---Computer Maintenance 1.Deleting Unwanted Files, General HouseKeeping 2.Scandisk and Defrag 3.Cleaning – Fans – Drives 4.Backup Devices – (Optional Homework will include installation and operation of a device.) 5.Virus Protection – Homework will include a 10 Question test and the Installation and operation of an Anti-Virus Program. (The program used is the student’s choice and is supplied by the student.) ---The Internet 1.The History of the Internet and Getting Connected – (Will Include 10 Question Homework Assignment.) 2.Precautions – Minor Children and Viruses 3.Resources Available On-Line to help the student learn the Net,Tutorials and Search Engines will be covered. 4.E-Mail and E-Mail programs.
